We are so excited to announce that we will be launching our very first all-leather collection in October which is designed in collaboration with students from MDIS Fashion and Design School. This collection will feature four different styles of bags – a work bag, a travel bag, a casual weekend bag, as well as an evening clutch. Highly inspired by women empowerment, this collection aims to instill self-confidence into women of all ages, from different walks of life.

Let’s first get to know more the designers behind this collection.

Meet Ilona.

1) Tell us about your background, and why you choose to study fashion.
My name is Ilona K. I have lived in this complicated world for 18 years (specifically 17 years and 11 months) and am born and raised in the hustle and bustle of Jakarta, Indonesia. Fashion, to me, is a way of expressing and characterising myself on a daily basis and it gives me a sense of belonging within a group. Aside from the satisfaction I receive from styling myself, I have grown fond of fashion as a whole; in both designing and marketing. I study fashion to pursue my dream of taking a part in the evolution of fashion and somehow, start a fashion business one day.

2) What is the inspiration behind your design for this collaboration with HOS?
One of my ambition in life is to live with respect, confidence and freedom of choice. Therefore, I design my bag with women empowerment being the main inspiration. Women have been given less and less freedom of choice due to the judgements given by society. I believe women deserve equal freedom and rights and that women should never feel inferior of what they truly believe they are. I have designed my bag with the intention of it relaying this message and even added features to go with it. You will know once it’s out so please do look forward to my design! I sincerely hope my bag will be able to empower women and mean something to them like how it means to me.

Meet Zoey.

1) Tell us about your background, and why you choose to study fashion.
My name is Zhaoying (Zoey) and I’m from China. I was born in 1994, and I’m totally a 90s girl. Before I got into MDIS Fashion and Design School, I worked as nurse before, and I didn’t quite enjoy it – so I told myself that it is important that I do what I enjoy in life. That was when I decided to study fashion, which I had a hard time convincing my parents to allow me to. I have always enjoyed every aspects of art and I draw all the time. I also like to learn new things.

2) What is the inspiration behind your design for this collaboration with HOS?
Throughout my design process, I thought about the modern, independent women who will be carrying these bags. My design features a strong metallic line which is a representation of a weapon that exhibits strength and elegance. It is also designed to be spacious enough to carry both work and personal essentials, and has a good number of compartments to ensure that the inside will be clutter-free.

Meet Summer.

1) Tell us about your background, and why you choose to study fashion.
I’m Summer Oh from Korea. Growing up, I had always somehow imagined myself living in another country and working in the fashion industry. I’m not even sure since when and the reason why (most probably I was only captured by the fancy side of it back then). It was only 3 years ago that I have made plans to study abroad. By the time I turned 16, that plan turned into reality, thus here I am now studying fashion in Singapore. Fashion is so strangely special to me; it’s not just about dressing up. During my fashion education, I get to think out of the box and get out of my comfort zone which is very challenging most of the time. But I really love the fact that I can say whatever I think is right through this interest of mine. Fashion is basically part of everyone’s life from decades ago to now. It has both ugly and pretty sides just like other things that matter in our lives. I guess that’s why I find fashion interesting, and would love to learn more about it!

2) What is the inspiration behind your design for this collaboration with HOS?
In this collaboration, I was given the opportunity to design the travel bag. I wanted it to be practical yet, stylish because I know that customers don’t want to look like a backpacker when they travel, especially when they’re modern, confident and independent women. And as our collection’s inspiration is mainly women empowerment, I focused on how women can go free with nothing attached but themselves. I want them leave all the worries at home while they’re on a trip with the bag that I designed.
