Here is a throwback to when House of Sheens celebrated fearless women at the launch of their collection Impavido.

In June 2016, luxury brand House of Sheens held an event to launch its new cuff and clutch collection, Impavido. Close to 200 guests were present for the unveiling, but the party wasn’t just about admiring the beautiful spider-inspired designs and sipping prosecco. Founder, director and head designer, Shireena Shroff Manchharam, a supporter of UN Women, also invited three speakers — singer-songwriter Jodie Strecker, television host Anita Kapoor and writer Amanda Blum for an #InspiringFearlessWomen talk. The women spoke about their experiences in overcoming fears at work and even in their private lives at home. Continually committed to social-consciousness, House of Sheens, will be sharing part of the proceeds from their new collection with the UN Women Singapore Committee.

In commemoration of Singapore’s 51st birthday this week, Vanilla Luxury has compiled a list of Singaporean products that they love. Here are our personal favourites from their top 10 list!

 1. Earrings from Carrie K

Homegrown artisan Carrie K is a legend who left her fast paced advertising job to pursue her dream of being a silversmith. Her jewellery is playfully provocative as ‘an antidote to a world that takes itself too seriously’. Her online store could mean hours of surfing and serious damage to that credit card but we fell in love with her Key Hole Earrings in Rose Gold. Simple yet defining, this piece is from Disney and Carrie K’s collaboration which is inspired by Alice in Wonderland!

2. Crazy Rich Asians, The Book

For those of you living under a rock or too busy to be reading fast fiction, Kevin Kwan’s depiction of the Singaporean elite has taken the world by storm. We took to his first book Crazy Rich Asians, at a recent holiday, when all other fiction paled in comparison. From old money to classic stereotypes, this page turner is quite the roller coaster ride. With a sequel and an impending Hollywood movie release, we think this Singaporean novel demands your attention and now!

3. A House of Sheens Signature Clutch

Crafted by regional artisans within South East Asia, House of Sheens is a homegrown brand that offers a range of  leather accessories. What’s more, 30% of the proceeds from their new collection go towards the Singapore Committee for UN Women. This gorgeous Esperanza Clutch in Fuschia is handmade with snakeskin leather, complete with a butter-soft suede interior. Fashion, quality and giving back; what’s not to like!

If you are planning on a vacation this summer, wherever you are headed to, heed The Boutique Society’s advice on how to pack smart to avoid excess baggage charges!

Here at The Boutique Society HQ we recommend packing a fun and flirty bold clutch to add a touch of holiday glamour to your outfits for your dinner under the warm summer sky.

Versatile Jewelry is always a good idea for trips away, which you can wear to accessorize a day to evening outfit for those unexpected restaurant finds when out exploring.

For those evening walks before or after dinner combine comfort with style by packing a pair of wedges, which achieve the smart-casual dress code with ease, bold colours are ideal for days spent under the sun.

On those days spent sightseeing and exploring different cultures you’ll need to pack a lightweight cotton dress to take you from the beach to the piazza.

We never forget the kids and a cute hooded towel is a necessity for when your little ones jump out of the pool or the sea into your waiting sun kissed arms.

This month, Shireena shared her views on how workwear has evolved and how it affects women, in Travelshopa’s article The Changing Face Of Workwear.

“Workwear has evolved as women have gained more independence and confidence in the workplace,” says Shireena Manchharam, Managing Director and Founder of Sheens Image Consulting.

She believes women now have more choices when it comes to workwear. “While women were traditionally encouraged to wear black pantsuits and skirt suits, they now have the freedom to be more bold and creative in terms of dress,” says Manchharam, who is also the Founder of accessory label, House of Sheens.

“These changes came about as women ascended the corporate ladder. The ability to dress as a “woman” and not suit up to mirror a “man” is very empowering for females. It gives us a choice to dress femininely and yet be respected in the workplace,” she adds.

In partnership with CRIB, Diva Universal, Singapore Women’s Network, Vanilla Luxury, BottlesXO, Gourmand Kitchen, Anne your French Photographer and Wildflower, the event saw over 200 people attend to view the brand’s latest collection and hear a panel discussion by guest speakers. As soon as doors opened, guests were welcomed to a beautifully decked out space that was conceptualised by duo, Hakiko & Stephanie from Wildflower, who managed to decorate the venue with hints of greenery, bringing the entire inspiration to life.

DJ Red from Altra Management soon took over the decks that set the mood for the evening, while guests mingled and interacted with one another over canapés by Gourmand Kitchen and prosecco and wine by BottlesXO.

The latest Impavido collection of bags and cuffs, which featured gold enamel spiders were first unveiled to the guests at the event to browse through and purchase. Shireena Shroff Manchharam, founder of House of Sheens said, “Spiders normally have a negative connotation but these spiders were beautifully crafted and that’s when the concept of ‘fearless’ came to mind. It is amazing how something that is considered to be ugly and scary can be so beautiful.”

Together with the moderator for the evening, Teodora Pavokic, the panel discussion kicked off with Shireena Shroff Mancharram saying a few words, followed by a series of inspiring talks.

From Anita Kapoor (famous TV personality) to  Amanda Blum (humanist and storyteller) and Jodie Strecker (songwriter and singer), the ladies  individually shared stories of how they have personally overcome fear in their lives.

To wrap up the event, guests were treated to a surprise performance by singer Jodie Strecker, who sang a few tracks such as Who you Gonna Be Tonight, ending the evening on a beautiful note.

“Vanilla Luxury is honoured to be part of such an event which inspires women to pursue their dreams.. When I first started my company, I had my personal reservations but women like Shireena, the founder of House of Sheens, was supportive. Every once in awhile, all of could use a little inspiration in our lives,”  said Gursheel Dhillon, Director.
